There’s a huge shortage of blood and you can help (and get a free ticket to the WM Phoenix Open worth $30). Here’s more information from United Blood Services:
“More blood transfusions are required in January than any other month of the year. That’s why The Thunderbirds, hosts of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, have stepped in to make sure the New Year starts out on par for patients across Arizona. Every Jan. 1 – 15 United Blood Services donors will receive a voucher for a free ticket to the Waste Management Phoenix Open in appreciation for replenishing Arizona’s blood supply following the holiday season. Billed as “The Greatest and Greenest Show on Grass,” the tournament will be held at the TPC Scottsdale from Jan. 27 – Feb. 2, 2014. To make a blood donation appointment, call 1-877-UBS-HERO (1-877-827-4376) toll free or click on the “donate” link on the left side of this page.
Waste Management Phoenix Open; Blood Donor Voucher Redemption
Jan. 1 – 15 blood donors simply enter the voucher promo code online by Jan. 22 and then receive a ticket a few days later through the U.S. mail. (Vouchers cannot be accepted at the tournament gate.)
January blood donors will help people like McKindree, a Gilbert teen who has required more than 50 blood transfusions. In addition to an immune disorder, McKindree suffers from Diamond Blackfan Anemia, a rare disease that prevents her body from producing red blood cells. She is alive today because of regular transfusions of red blood cells and IVIG, a blood plasma derivative that provides antibodies to boost her suppressed immune system. “Thanks to blood donors, our family is complete,” says her mother, Aimee. “I’m not sure I have the words to express my gratitude to them. Their generosity helps to take away the fear of losing her.”
The partnership between United Blood Services and the Thunderbirds began more than a decade ago and has grown to become one of the most popular “thank you” gifts received by donors throughout the year. “We hope to encourage more blood donations while people are still focused on the spirit of giving,” said Audrey Jennings, Regional Executive Director for United Blood Services/Arizona. “The gift of life is the most important gift of all and doesn’t cost anything, except a little of your time.””
Enjoy!
